An MBA student hanged herself in her hostel room in the Indian Institute of Management, Bangalore after finding out from Facebook that her boyfriend had dumped her.
According to police, the couple had an argument, which resulted in the breakup. Later, her boyfriend had left a post on Facebook saying, “Feeling super cool today.
Dumped my new ex-girlfriend. Happy Independence Day.”
Depressed, she did not attend classes. She had left a suicide note on her laptop, saying her boyfriend had left her and she was killing herself over it. She’d also scribbled ‘He ditched me’ on a board in her room.
In another incident at Vijayawada a 27-year-old Muslim software engineer, committed suicide by hanging himself from the ceiling fan in his residence after his Brahmin girlfriend who initially showed interest to marry him bowed to the wishes of her parents.
According to girl’s parents, the lad’s proposal was declined as the duo’s horoscopes didn’t match. Remaining hopeful, the engineer pursued his girlfriend but he was repeatedly rejected.
Anyone who has experienced the breakup of a relationship knows it can cause anxiety, irritability, anger and feelings of hopelessness or worthlessness.
Break-ups can be devastating. It’s a rough transition from sharing every part of your life with someone, to picking up the phone and suddenly remembering you shouldn’t call them.
The depression that comes after a break-up can feel so heavy and difficult that no one else can possibly understand what you are going through.
Both people in a relationship have a mutual responsibility to end it gracefully rather than abruptly.
One might disengage and walk out, but the other may find it difficult to move on in rest of the life.
